Matthew 7:12English Standard Version
12 “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
How we treat people matters. If we truly treat them as we desire them to treat us, we will always have their best interests in mind. We will never choose to manipulate or hurt them.
Problems occur when people don't do this. Many people today lack knowledge or a relationship with God. They are simply driven by selfish wants and desires. This becomes a problem because people will destroy those who stand in the way of what they want.
But when we examine the law of God and all the prophets, it is summed up in loving our neighbor as ourselves. Jesus made this very clear when He was asked what the greatest commandment is. It begins with loving God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and is followed by loving our neighbor as ourselves. It is impossible to do the second without first loving God with everything.
What does it mean to love God, as Jesus states? It means that we truly love, serve, and worship Him. When we truly worship God, we will worship Him with everything. We will. walk with Him. We will build our lives on the promises of His word. When this happens, we will love others as ourselves because we will desire the very best for every person weie to selfish desire, and in the end, we will become more and more like Jesus.
