The Rainbow belongs To One: God Almighty
God Almighty alone is the creator of Heaven and Earth
It means He has created all things
The Apostle Paul writes this in Romans 1:18-32 18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.
24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.
26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.
28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. 32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
Paul lays out for us a progression in the sinfulness and wickedness of man
As people reject God and the worship of Him, they are given over to the sinful desires of their hearts
God has revealed Himself in all He has created.
His fingerprints are every where
But as they have rejected God and His ways we see that their hearts are given over to darkness and wickedness
For many in the world today they view the month of June as pride month
Pride month came into existence after the Stonewall riots, a series of gay liberation protests in 1969, and has since spread outside of the United States.
It has permeated our culture like a cancer
We often hear that we need to be tolerant and accept the activities surrounding pride month
They have even taken the rainbow as their symbol and made it into a flag
Now when we examine the purpose of a flag, we see that often when enemy armies conquer and area they will erect and establish their flag as a claim of a territory or region
A flag is a symbol and those in the LGBTQ community has taken what God has created and used it to celebrate what is contrary and against God’s word
Where did the rainbow come from?
Many today who have no knowledge of God would say that it simply belongs to the LGBTQ community and is a representation of love
But what they fail to understand is when they bow their knee to this agenda and partake of the events and activities surrounding it, they come into covenant with the devil.
Jesus said this concerning the devil in John 10:10 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
He also says this in John 8:44 44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
The devil is a murderer and a liar
He has taken that which God has created and used it to symbolize something that is an abomination in the eyes of Almighty God
Genesis 9:1-17 states Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. 2 The fear and dread of you will fall on all the beasts of the earth, and on all the birds in the sky, on every creature that moves along the ground, and on all the fish in the sea; they are given into your hands. 3 Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.
4 “But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it. 5 And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each human being, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of another human being.
6 “Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made mankind.
7 As for you, be fruitful and increase in number; multiply on the earth and increase upon it.”
8 Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him: 9 “I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you 10 and with every living creature that was with you—the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you—every living creature on earth. 11 I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be destroyed by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.”
12 And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: 13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. 16 Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”
17 So God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth.”
Noah has spent 364 days in the ark
Noah was the 10th from the line of Adam
Noah was the great grandson of Enoch the great prophet of God
Noah’s grandfather was Methusaleh who was the oldest living man recorded in scripture
What is interesting is that Methusaleh died around the time the ark was completed
Noah most likely heard about His great grandfather
God said this of Noah in Genesis 6:8 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.
Noah was set apart for God
He faithfully built the ark as God instructed
After spending 364 days in the ark God established a covenant with Noah
God calls Noah to be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth
The fear and dread of humanity would fall on all that God had created
They were given to Noah and His descendants for food to eat
With one stipulation of not eating meat with the blood still in it because the life of the individual was in the blood
This would be key when Jesus would lay down His life for humanity
God also shows how valuable a human life is in verses 5 and 6 5 And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each human being, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of another human being.
6 “Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made mankind.
We see how much God values human life
This is why when many today end the life of an unborn child and simply call it a fetus to somehow discard it and justify their actions, it breaks the heart of the Living God
But we see now that God establishes a covenant with Noah
We really see three things
A covenant, a promise, and a symbol
God’s covenant is in verse 9 – 11 a 9 “I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you 10 and with every living creature that was with you—the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you—every living creature on earth. 11 I establish my covenant with you:
God’s covenant is not only establish with Noah and His family, but with all humanity
It is also established with every living creature on the earth
A covenant is An agreement between two parties that specifies requirements for at least one party, and includes blessing and curses for obedience or failure
God’s covenant with Noah and all creation was by His grace alone
He didn’t have to make this promise because sadly the heart of man is inherently wicked
The flood and judgement of God came because of the wickedness of man
Sadly our day becomes more and more a reflection of Noah’s day
But within the covenant God established we see a promise
Verse 11 b Never again will all life be destroyed by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.”
God’s promise is that He will never again destroy all life by flooding the earth
God never promised not to judge the earth again, but He did promise to never flood the earth again
God’s desire is mercy
God is the author of life
In Ezekiel 33:11 11 Say to them, ‘As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, people of Israel?’
God’s desire is that those He has created in His image would turn from their wickedness and sin
God has given humanity a symbol to demonstrate His love, grace, and mercy
The rainbow
Genesis 9:12-17 12 And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: 13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.
This sign is a symbol of a covenant
For all generations
It is a sign between God Almighty and humanity
The purpose of the rainbow is not only for us to look and see the grace and mercy of God extended to us
But God looks upon the rainbow as a reminder that He will never flood the earth again
This is an everlasting covenant with all creation
We don’t deserve His mercy and His grace
But He chooses to extend it
Other places in scripture where we see the rainbow mentioned
Ezekiel 1:28 28 Like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around him. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. When I saw it, I fell facedown, and I heard the voice of one speaking.
Revelation 4:3 3 And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and ruby. A rainbow that shone like an emerald encircled the throne.
Revelation 10:1 Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven. He was robed in a cloud, with a rainbow above his head; his face was like the sun, and his legs were like fiery pillars.
God Almighty has created and owns the rainbow
A rainbow is created When sunlight hits a rain droplet, some of the light is reflected. The electromagnetic spectrum is made of light with many different wavelengths, and each is reflected at a different angle. Thus, spectrum is separated, producing a rainbow.
It requires light to create a rainbow
God said let there be light
It has seven colors which seven represents completion and perfection in God’s kingdom
The devil has taken something very precious and beautiful that has been created by Almighty God and used it to symbolize something wicked and satanic
The pride flag has six colors which is the number of man
What is God’s heart for the LGBTQ community?
Repentance
Many are told today you can determine your own gender and sexuality
That you are your own god
But it is a lie
It is based on a deception
There is only one God and He is the one who determines truth
He has created all things and owns all things
No day or month belongs to the devil
Sadly the world calls this pride month and we are told in God’s word in proverbs 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.
Sadly all who align themselves with pride month and the activities that surround it make a covenant with the devil
It sadly opens the door to the influence and destruction of hell in the life of a person
God’s desire is that people would turn from their sin
No matter how much our world and culture justifies sin, it never will make it right
There is only one who has created the rainbow and owns it and He is Almighty God
