Open My eyes that I may see: Psalm 119:18

Open My Eyes That I May See

Psalm 119:18 New International Version

18 Open my eyes that I may see    wonderful things in your law.

It is only The Spirit of God who can lead and guide us into all truth. Our ability to know and discern truth is only possible by God’s hand and grace. The cry of the Psalmist is to open their eyes that he may see. The word open means uncover; (have to) leave, go into exile; expose or reveal oneself; be exposed, announced, revealed; appear, show. to open (object) — to cause to open or to become open; whether in a physical or abstract sense.[1] The word see means look, behold, look at; look across.  to see — to perceive by sight or have the power to perceive by sight.[2] The cry of the Psalmist is that God would open the word of God to him. That He would see the wonderful things that are found in God’s word.

God’s word is living and active. When we spend time in prayer seeking God and asking Him to pour out greater revelation, wisdom, knowledge, and understanding into our hearts before we open the word of God, we will never be denied. God has given us His word to reveal His character and His nature. He has revealed Himself through His word. His number one desire with us is for great and deep intimacy and this can only be found as we come to know Him in greater ways. God reveals the deep things of His heart to those who truly seek Him with all of their heart.

The word wonderful means do something wonderful; be too difficult; be unusual; miraculous acts.[3] The works of God are supernatural. They are beyond our ability and often can only be understood as the Spirit of God leads us into greater understanding. When we handle and study God’s word it isn’t like picking up any other book. It is a foolish thing to simply begin to dive in and read. We should spend sufficient time in God’s presence praying and seeking His face. Praying in the Spirit and in our understanding. As we cry out to Him to open the scriptures to us, He will not only help us to understand, but will teach us to apply the word of God.

Where life change happens concerning God’s word is when it is understood and applied. When we begin to apply the principles and truths found in God’s word, we will see our very lives changes from the inside out. We will become more and more like Him. We will be positioned to see His purposes and plans accomplished in our lives. All of it begins when we truly begin to seek God with our whole heart and the number one desire in us becomes to know His word.

Prayer

Father thank you for your word. Thank you for your goodness and your love. Thank you for how much you love me and care for me. Father help me each day to know you in a greater way. Remove everything from my life that would hinder your work and plan. Father remove any confusion in my heart and mind. Help me to be the man or woman you have called me to be. May your word and knowing your word be my obsession and only aim. In the name of Jesus, Amen!
