May Grace And Peace Be Multiplied To You: 2 Peter 1:2

May Grace And Peace Be Multiplied To You

2 Peter 1:2 English Standard Version

May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

Without Jesus Christ we are not able to access the mercy and grace of God. But through knowing Jesus Christ, the grace and mercy of God is lavished upon our lives. Here Peter writes May grace and peace be multiplied to you. That doesn’t mean a little bit, he is speaking of being multiplied. The word multiplied means increase, abound, multiply.[1] It speaks of the grace and peace of God immersing our lives and covering every part.

Why is the peace of God so important? Because it is supernatural. Paul writes this concerning the peace of God And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Phil 4:7). The peace of God is not dependent on circumstances. It is supernatural. We could be in the midst of one of the most difficult seasons of our lives, but if we draw near to God His peace will fill our minds and our hearts.

Why is the grace of God so importance? The word grace means grace, good will, favor. Conveys the sense of a gift of kindness and favor given to a person or persons[2]. It is the favor and good will of God poured out on our lives without merit. It is not earned but was purchased by the finish work of Jesus Christ. When We come to Jesus, His grace is lavished upon us. It is His grace that makes all things possible. Peter here says may the grace and peace of God be multiplied upon you.

But the second part of this verse is vital. In the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. The grace and peace of God can only be multiplied through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. Is Peter simply talking about knowing information about God? No. The word knowledge here means knowledge, understanding. Relating to knowledge of transcendent value.[3]. It is having a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Understanding by the revelation of the Holy Spirit that Jesus is God Almighty. For if we confess with our mouth and believe in our heart that Jesus is Lord, we will be saved (Romans 10:9).

We are not only saved from being eternally separated from God, but we are saved from the dominion of darkness. We are no longer slaves of sin; we have become slaves of righteousness. The grace and peace of God is multiplied on our lives when we come to a saving knowledge of Jesus and growing our understanding of who He is daily. We are called to abide in Him, to abide in His truth, to have our minds renewed and our lives transformed.

Prayer

Father thank you for your grace. Thank you for loving us enough to send your Son Jesus to die for us. Jesus thank you for giving your life. Thank you for taking the punishment we deserve. May your will be done in my heart and life. May I understand your grace and peace more and more in my life. Father remove anything in my life that would hinder your work or grieve you. Help me to grow deeply each day and to be the son or daughter you have called me to be. Thank you for rescuing me. Thank you for saving me. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen!
