Let The Peace of Christ Rule Your Hearts
Colossians 3:15 Christian Standard Bible
15 And let the peace of Christ, to which you were also called in one body, rule your hearts. And be thankful.
We live in a world of chaos and confusion. Many today are blinded by the lies of the devil. They have allowed themselves to be robbed of their God given purpose and destiny because they have come to believe a lie and have built their lives upon it. There is only one way we can find peace and understand who we truly are and that is through knowing Jesus Christ alone.
The word peace here means peace. The state of well-being and concord.[1] The word concord means a state of agreement or harmony. Life only truly makes sense when we live in right relationship with the Living God. I have no idea how anyone navigates the world today without knowing Jesus Christ. But this peace the bible speaks of that is a state of well-being or concord is only found in Jesus Christ. Above the Apostle Paul says the peace of Christ. It is peace that is found when we are in right relationship with Jesus.
Why is there peace in Christ? Our sins are washed away. The divided between us an Almighty God is gone. His grace covers our lives and His hand protects us. He works all things together for our good. He goes before us. He always provides. He establishes every step. He is our strong tower and our rampart. He is the unshakable foundation on which we can build our lives. All of this is found in knowing Jesus Christ.
We are called to one body. As followers of Jesus Christ, we are part of the body of Christ. Every single one of us has an essential function to play in the purposes and plans of God. There is no one who is insignificant. Often people will believe and listen to the devil and view themselves as a screw up and mistake. They will isolate and become paralyzed in their relationship with God. But the truth is in Jesus we are a brand-new creation. There are no mistakes or screw ups. God will redeem all things for His glory. He will supernaturally work in our circumstances to bring divine reversals. But the key is we need to trust Him, and we need to become an active participant in our relationship with Him. We must pursue and seek after Him.
The Apostle Paul tells us that the peace of Christ should rule our hearts. The word rule here means control, act as a judge or umpire; rule.[2] The word heart here means heart. Refers literally to the vital organ, but is more often used metaphorically for the inner person.[3] When God speaks of our hearts in this circumstance it speaks of the decision making part of our being. It is where we make decisions concerning things we are faced with. In every decision and choice, the peace of God is called to rule and reign in our hearts. The peace of God is literally called to control us. We are not to be marked by chaos and confusion. As a follower of Jesus, we should have the peace of God ruling and reigning in us because of His love for us and His sovereignty over all things.
Prayer
Father thank you for the peace we have through Jesus. Jesus thank you for your love for us and that you are sovereign over all things. Father remove from my life any fear, worry, doubt, discouragement, and anxiety. Father may my life be covered and filled with your peace. Help me to understand you more and more. Help me to fix my eyes upon you. Help me to live for you and glorify your name and kingdom in all things. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen!
