Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly

Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly

Colossians 3:16 New International Version

16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.

Does the message of Christ dwell within us? Is our lives built upon the truth and teaching of Jesus Christ? For this to happen we must spend time daily in God’s word reading over it, meditating upon it, and applying it to our lives. It must become the foundation on which we build our lives. When we think of our lives like a house is our house build upon the sand or is it build upon the bedrock. Those who build their lives upon the words of Jesus will build their lives on a unshakable foundation.

The word dwell means live; dwell; dwell — to inhabit or live in; be an inhabitant of. [1] We are called to live in Christ. We are called to abide in Him. Paul says here as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. Are we involved in any of these as we have grown in our relationship with God. Are we teaching? Are we admonishing one another with all wisdom? For us to do this we must be led and guided by The Holy spirit in all things. As we are filled with The Holy Spirit, and we are guided by the Holy Spirit everything Paul states here will become a reality in our lives.

Every single one of us are vessels and temples of The Holy Spirit. But what are we filled by? Are we filled by the world and the spirit of this age or are we filled with the Spirit of God. I truly believe being filled with the Spirit is simply a result of spending time in God’s presence. If we think of the Holy Spirit like water, when we spend time in God’s presence we are being filled up. The more we spend time with Him, the more we are filled up. There is nothing worse than trying to live life from a place of emptiness. But spending time with the Lord is contingent on seeing the work and power of The Holy Spirit at work in our lives.

Prayer

Father fill me today with your love and your presence. May the gifts and power of The Holy Spirit flow from my life. May I dwell within the message of Jesus. May the word of God be inscribed on my heart. May my life be built upon you and your kingdom. Have your way in me and may your will be done. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen!
