If Two of you on earth agree about any matter: Matthew 18:19-20

If Two Of You on Earth Agree About Any Matter

Matthew 18:19-20 Christian Standard Bible

19 Again, truly I tell you, if two of you on earth agree about any matter that you pray for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, I am there among them.”

Prayer is powerful. Individual prayer is powerful but is also a wonderful opportunity to build deeper intimacy with the Holy Spirit. But here Jesus shows us how powerful corporate prayer is. Unity is essential in the body of Christ. Jesus tells us “if two of you on earth agree about about any matter that you pray for, it will be done for you by my Father in Heaven”. Being in agreement speaks about unity. We cannot be in agreement if we are not walking in unity. Not only in unity with one another, but in unity with God Almighty.

One of the great weapons of the enemy to hinder kingdom purposes and the plans of God is to sow division and discord. There are some churches today that are more divided than unified. Even in the body of Christ as a whole there are many who are fragmented and divided than unified in Christ. But when the people of God walk in unity and come together agreeing in prayer, the purposes of God’s kingdom will be accomplished.

Our prayers must align with the purposes of God. We may agree together on something but if it is not according to the will of God it will not be accomplished. We are not little gods, and we don’t speak things into existence or create things. But when we come together in unity on any issue according to God’s will, we have the opportunity to see the purposes of God accomplished in the earth.

It is sad and a detriment how some churches have no corporate prayer as a body. They don’t have a time during the week when they simply come together to pray and seek the will of God. When a church and body of people become a house of prayer, the potential for heaven to invade the earth becomes a reality. If you are part of a church that doesn’t have corporate prayer, maybe God is calling you to take the initiative to start it at your church.

The Lord also tells us “where two or three are gathered together in my name, I am there among them”. If we desire to encounter Him in a mighty way, then we must come together with fellow believers in seeking the Lord and fellowship. Some today have relegated themselves to sit at home and simply watch online services and sermons. I am thankful that they are available today in abundance but if that is the extent of someone’s existence in the body of Christ, they have bought into the lie of the enemy, and they are being robbed.

God desires to accomplish His purposes through us. The greatest way this happens is in prayer when we are unified and in one accord. Even in our own personal lives there are issues we face for breakthrough to happen we need other believers to come alongside us in prayer. God hasn’t called any of us to be a lone ranger. God has called us to be a beneficial member of the body of Christ. To use the gifts He has given us, calling us to walk in unity and love one another. When the body of Christ walks in unity and the priority is prayer, they are the most dynamic force in the earth.

Prayer

Father I come today and thank you for the honor and privilege to pray and seek you. I thank you for my brothers and sisters in Christ. Father I thank you that at any time we can draw near and spend time in your presence. I thank you that nothing is impossible to Him who believes. That if two or more agree on anything it is done. Father I pray that your people would be a house of prayer. I pray that your bride throughout the earth would understand the power of prayer and the kingdom authority we have in Christ. Father help us each day to seek you with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. Father have your way and may your will be done in the name of Jesus, Amen!
