Come, Let’s Shout Joyfully To The Lord: Psalm 95:1-2

Come, Let’s Shout Joyfully To The Lord

Psalm 95:1-2 Christian Standard Bible

1 Come, let’s shout joyfully to the Lord, shout triumphantly to the rock of our salvation!2 Let’s enter his presence with thanksgiving;let’s shout triumphantly to him in song.

The Psalmist writes for us to shout joyfully to the Lord. The word joyfully means call loudly, shrilly; rejoice.[1] Why are we called to shout joyfully? Because the Lord is the rock of our salvation. The word salvation means salvation, deliverance, welfare, victory. Refers to salvation from enemies or to safety more broadly.[2] It is not only God who saves us from our sins, He is the one who rescues us from all trouble. He is the one by His power and His grace who will work all things together for our good.

The word rock means rock, boulder, cliff. Literally indicates a rock or cliff; used figuratively to describe God as protector.[3] This isn’t speaking about some small rock or pebble. It speaks of a boulder or a cliff. It is the solid foundation that Jesus pointed to when He spoke of the parable about the wise man who build his house upon the rock and the foolish man who built his house on the sand. God is an unshakable foundation. He has never promised us that we will not face trouble. What He has promised us is that He will never leave us nor forsake us. That He will always provide. He will be the one who will deliver us. For us to be delivered it means that the enemy will have come after us. The enemy will have set schemes to destroy us. But our God and King will deliver us every time.

We are called to enter His presence with thanksgiving. The word thanksgiving means thanksgiving, sacrifice of thanksgiving, thank offering. Describes the giving of thanks to God, thank offerings, exhortations, and declarations of praise and thanksgiving.[4] There is nothing greater on this earth than being able to draw near and spend time in God’s presence. It is the Lord who draws and calls us. It is Jesus who has paid the price and redeemed us. When we draw near is when we will find freedom and deliverance. The key to overcoming the enemy is simply drawing near to God and abiding in His presence. It is here that we will find safety and refuge.

The only response in understanding the greatness of our God is to shout triumphantly with song. Triumphantly means cry, cry out, shout; raise the war-cry or alarm; rejoice, cheer.[5] It speaks of raising a war cry. Raising a shout of victory over our enemies. We can sing because we will overcome because our God and King goes before us. He will make a way where there is no way. He will always provide. Regardless of the odds we face, our God is greater.

Prayer

Father today I thank you for the victory we have in Jesus Christ. I thank you that you work all things together for my good. I thank you that regardless of what we face, we will over come. Thank you for your goodness and your love. Thank you for your faithfulness at all times. Lead and guide me this day. Thank you for meeting every need and thank you that your grace covers every area of my life. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen!
