By Faith We Understand That The Entire Universe Was Formed At God's Command

3 By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.

            The entire universe was formed by God’s command. It is pretty awesome when we sit back and meditate on that. When the words left the mouth of Almighty God, all that we know in creation was formed. Often, we can sit back and look at the magnificence of creation and we can feel inconsequential because of its greatness. But all that we can see and what is not seen by our eye was all created by the word of God. It is held together by His mighty power. All of life itself is under the control and dominion of Almighty God.

            But we see it is by faith. By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command. The writer of Hebrews is not only showing us the importance of faith but also the power of faith. Faith in itself is not powerful. But it is the object of said faith that makes it possible. When Jesus is the object of our faith, and He is the foundation on which we build all things it is an unshakable foundation. Some were considering abandoning faith in Christ alone, but over and over the writer of Hebrews shows how foolish and destructive that decision is.

            He continues what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen. In the verses before this he defined faith as the reality of what is hoped for, the proof of what is not seen. We do not walk by sight; we walk by faith. We walk by trusting the Living God and what His word has said and promised. God is faithful. He will never fail us. He will never abandon us. He will fulfill all He starts. He will always provide. He will always protect. Even amid suffering, He will sustain us and strengthen us by His grace and His power. We simply need to trust Him at His word and guard our hearts from allowing lies and deception to come in and paralyze the faith God has given us.

Prayer

Father thank you for the faith you have given us. Thank you for saving us. Thank you for opening our eyes to the truth. Thank you for the opportunity to suffer for the name of Jesus. May you sustain us by your grace and power. Help us to fully rely on you for all things. We praise and honor your holy name. Jesus thank you for paying the price for us to be forgiven. Thank you for redeeming us and setting us free. Holy Spirit thank you for your goodness and your leading in all things. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen!
