Philippians 2:3 NLT
Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.
Humility is the key to greatness in God's kingdom. So many people get caught up and imprison to trying to please man. Today many are consumed with how many likes or views they get on a social media post. Or pastors become consumed with how large their audience is or how many campuses they have connect to their ministry.
But when we view God's word we are called not to be selfish. We are called not to be self consumed. We are called to abide in Jesus on a daily basis and to die to self. For Jesus said if any man were to come after me he must deny himself and take up his cross. This call by Jesus applies to both men and women but it is a call to die to self and surrender all to Jesus. But this is only possible as we abide in Him.
We are called not to try to impress others. How many of us become enslaved in trying to impress others. True freedom comes when we no longer care nor consider the opinion of man. True freedom begins when we let go of trying to please people and make God the only one we are concerned with pleasing.
We are called to be humble and think of others better or more highly then ourselves. How different would our nation or world be if we actually put this into practice. Today many simply think of others less themselves and tread all over them. But when humility becomes the desire of our heart, there will be some painful things we will go through, but through every painful season God will do a deep work in our hearts and lives to bring forth His character and nature.
The things described here in scripture can only come to pass as we abide in Jesus on a daily basis. As we walk with Him and ask to be filled daily with The Holy Spirit, The Holy Spirit will enable and empower us for all things. Greatness in God's kingdom happens when our focus is humility. Jesus gave us the greatest example of greatness when He got down and washed the disciples feet.
Prayer
Father help me to die to self. Help me to desire humility and to pursue it. Create in me a clean heart and prune from my life anything that hinders your work and purpose. Help me to live for you every day. Help me to see others as you see them. Help me to think of others more highly than myself.
