1 Timothy 1:14
New American Standard Bible 1995
14 and the grace of our Lord was more than abundant, with the faith and love which are found in Christ Jesus.
Paul says “the grace of our Lord was more than abundant”. Paul had mentioned in the previous verse of his past. He was a blasphemer, a persecutor, and a violent man against those in the body of Christ. By all accounts Paul deserved death. Paul deserved hell. Paul didn’t deserve the grace, love, and mercy of God.
But this is why I believe Paul was the apostle that he was. He knew more than anyone what he deserved. With Jesus we get what we don’t deserve in God’s grace and mercy. Because of faith in Jesus Christ alone our sins are forgiven. Our past is nailed to the cross of Calvary. Every time the devil comes to us and desires to condemn us because of our past, we simply need to point to the cross. All victory is found in Jesus Christ alone.
Faith and love are found in Jesus Christ. I am fully convinced that many reject Jesus because they have a misunderstanding of who Jesus is. They may have been hurt by people who represent the name of Jesus, or simply grew up in an environment where the truth of Jesus was not known. But when we come to know the depths of the love that is found in Jesus, our only option and desire is to abandon our sin and simply embrace all that Jesus has for us.
May we build our lives on the truth of scripture. May we daily spend time in God’s word meditating upon the precious promises that are found. The world continues to slide into greater darkness and chaos. But this is by design. There is coming a day when the wrath of Almighty God is going to be poured out upon the earth, but until that day the gospel goes forth, the grace and mercy of God is extended. Sadly, many in this generation reject Jesus and the precious salvation He offers because they love this world and love their sin. But there is no greater decision than to surrender all to Jesus Christ.
